In December 2006, I attended the Art Basel Miami Beach art fair as an intern for Afterall Journal. During one of my breaks I wandered the stalls, fairly overwhelmed by the onslaught of art on display. On a feminist kick, I gave myself a little mission to document each instance of “female representation” that I came across. It was an essentialist game, essentially. I included works made by female artists when I could identify them (I was moving pretty quickly). The result was this series of almost 200 snapshots.
